From hand-made artists’ papers to humble (though very good) copier, plus graphical printing papers and boards, from mills in Scandinavia down to Italy.

As a paper historian I have closely watched the demise of many mills that have lapsed into history from active production, yet I am keenly interested in those sites whose ancestry has been built upon and currently flourish, e.g. Whatman at Springfield Mill in Maidstone since January 1st. 1807; Papeteries de Lana in France since 1590, Tervakoski, Finland 1818, and the list goes on. As a further sign of my being a paper anorak, I also collect papers from old (and modern) mills, especially their watermarks, and other paper mill related ephemera. I really should get out more!

Very informative website!! Came across it in my surfing.
I was hoping that you could help me or at least point me in the right direction. I am on the hunt for Bright Yellow and Pink 45 gsm Newsprint reels. Any idea of mills that produce this.

The only one I know of is Abitibi. Any others? I would appreciate any assistance. Thanks very much.

Pleased that you like my outpourings! North America has nothing to offer on coloured newsprint as far as I am aware but you could try the following from Europe. I will also e-mail this to you through my website and include tech specs where available and web-links.
Best wishes, Steve R. Hill, FInstSMM, FInstPPP, Paper Consulatant and Environemental Conservationist:
HOLMEN COLOURED NEWS from Holmen Paper is available in pink and salmon, but not yellow, both in 45g/m²
SPECTRAPRESS from StoraEnso is available in pink & yellow, but the yellow is only available in 40g/m² & 42.5g/m².
PALM PRESS COLOURS from Papierfabrik Palm is available in yellow in 45g/m², Pink in 42.5g/m² only, and Salmon in 45g/m² only.
UNO NEWS from Burgo Group is available in Rosa 42 & 45g/m², Salmone in 45g/m² only, but not yellow.
UPM COLOR from UPM is available in yellow, pink and salmon, in weights from 42 – 52g/m² including your required 45g/m².
Unfortunately shade information is not available from their website.
A little further afield, OSNOVA’s mill in The Ukraine, JSC Zhydachiv Pulp & Paper Mill, offers coloured newsprint, though you would have to contact the mill direct for details. Their English is pretty good.
